WFML Glamorous Collection Launch

When Freddie met lilly Collection Launch

Hollywood-style glamour came to Brisbane last night with the glitzy launch of the When Freddie met Lilly Indianna Collection in the Valley. The night was filled with stunning gowns and equally gorgeous people, many wearing When Freddie met Lilly creations.

A full-on red carpet experience greeted the attendees with paparazzi snaps (by Masterpieces Photography + Video) on the stylish media wall (by Watermelon and Soda Design) outside Mirra Private Dining and Events. Attendees could get a wonderful dose of the ultra-hip vintage vibe at the Gathering Events caravan just outside the front door. Inside live music was being played by Savvy, while canapés and drinks were being served at a number of locations around this most flexible of venues, whilst fashion films projected in the courtyard, and guests could have the evening’s fun remembered at one of the two photo booths.

The standing room only parade commenced with a relaxed introduction by the beautiful and ever-so-accomplished Giaan Rooney, setting the scene for an evening of exquisite and sexy gowns.

As the lights came up the runway show was a veritable feast of sexiness with divine lace, luscious fabrics, sparkling embellishments along with lingering glimpses of décolletage, deep splits and low backs, all complemented by the spectacular headpieces from The Little Pack of Five. The luxurious green backdrop of the catwalk was highlighted by sparkling lights and lusciously draped with fresh native foliage by Kate Dawes Flower Design. The guys weren’t forgotten with suits, accessorized with bowties, and in a variety of seasonal colours. As always the flower girls managed to steal the show in the cuteness of frills, feathers and flower crowns.

Designer Vanessa Hoe should be justifiably proud of this collection, elements of which featured strongly last year in New York and at Sydney Bridal Fashion Week earlier this year. The When Freddie Met Lilly brand is an absolute powerhouse that continues to go from strength to strength and with standing room only this year, it’s exciting to think what next year’s collection launch might bring.

Wedding dance en pointe

TWA_Mirra_103Graceful elegance, flowing beauty, floating on a cloud. They’re all phrases we associate with wedding gowns, but they’re also words that apply equally to that most exquisite of art forms – ballet!
Ballet and weddings have a unique kind of synergy that appears to link them intrinsically. Perhaps it is the style of the dress, with many wedding gowns resembling ballet tutus, or is it the commonality of fabrics – lace, chiffon, tulle? Maybe it is the way ballerinas and girls in wedding gowns move, with a magical, flowing or floating appearance that draws similarities. Or it could just be that both demand perfection to achieve maximum impact. During our recent shoot at Mirra Private Dining and Events in the Valley we put a ballet dancer in a range a stunning, balletically inspired gowns and let the magic happen.

Trunk Show Excitement

Saturday the 14th arrived as a perfect Autumn day, with the sun shining and it was with a sense of excitement that we headed to the Stone’s Corner showroom of Elizabeth de Varga for their Trunk Show. The day couldn’t have been more perfect, with so many brides experiencing the happiest of moments, finding their dream bridal gown from the wonderful selection of couture and Pret-a-Porter styles available in store. Several wedding suppliers were also on hand to offer advice and discuss upcoming wedding details, including the talented Dave from Masterpieces Photography + Video and Ashlee from Latonas Makeup. The show room of Tammie Nitschke, head designer at Elizabeth de Varga, always looks sublime, but was further enhanced by a spectacular convertible Rolls Royce from Somerton Limousines parked out the front.

Here are some of the images taken by Masterpieces Photography from the day.

Photo Shoot Excitement

CurrumbinShoot1We’re all on a high after our weekend photo shoots around Currumbin. The perfect beaches with stunning white dunes provided the beach side theme we were intending. The week before had seen us nervously biting our nails as we watched the ever changeable weather forecast – just like a couple planning an outdoor wedding have to endure. Luckily the weather Gods played ball and the sun shone and the winds were calm!

The team that collaborated on this shoot were amazing. With exquisite gowns from Elizabeth deVarga and When Freddie Met Lilly this shoot was always going to be exceptional. Our wonderful creative team of Hair Stylist, Aleesha Darke, and Makeup Artist, Suzi Dent, worked so harmoniously, and followed the brief brilliantly.

Our outstanding photographer for the day was Dave from Masterpieces Photography and Video who worked with his usual creativity, efficiency and professionalism to get the absolute best from our gorgeous models from Katz Model Management.

To top it all off we had a charming seaside ceremony and reception set up by the talented Kasey from Fashionable Society Events. The coastal theme was complemented by the fresh watercolour styled stationery from LaPapeterie.

Everything just fell into place, and all the preparations we made came together perfectly on the day. The results speak for themselves and I’m sure you will be as delighted as we are when our new edition hits your inboxes very soon.

Here are some behind the scenes shots just to peak your interest.

Q&A with Karla from Blissful Makeup

Karla Strachan is the talent behind Blissful Makeup.

Karla_BlissfulMakeupWhat piece of advice would you offer to brides when it comes to make up?
Be true to yourself, choose a makeup style that reflects your own style, if you are natural and outdoorsy don’t choose anything too glamorous or really ‘made up’.
If you wear makeup everyday you can be more experimental.

What current trend do you think is worth following?
Vintage is huge! Winged eyeliner and red lips! Boho is also still popular with a more relaxed style and warmer hues and tones

Who is your style guide?
I love 50’s glamour – I adore Sophia Loren!

What are you most proud of?
Oooh….good question.  I am proud daily of my children who show me the beautiful things in life each day, but on a work/mua side – my passion for the makeup industry, sharing my skills and for the logevity of my career, I have now been working as a Makeup Artist for over 20 years and I love it more than ever.

Have you worked with any celebrities?
Yes, a few local Aussie celebs…
(but the best asset of a Makeup Artist is confidentiality ;-))

What is your ideal job?
Doing what I do of course…but a little of international travel involved would be awesome (of course funded)

Why did you become a makeup artist?
My Mum was the local Mary Kay lady in the 80’s I guess that was my earliest introduction, but I love art & painting so it was the natural direction for me to follow

What’s your favourite movie?
City of Angels is my favourite movie.

What are you reading?
The Sweet Poison Quit Plan How to kick the sugar habit!!  & Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (for my 9 year old)

Where is your ideal getaway?
A Tuscan Villa with lots of warm balmy nights and lazy days

Are you a cat or dog person?
I’m both, but I love the loyalty a dog gives you

What inspires you?
