Unsuitable wedding

It’s the one thing everyone dreads when flying – lost baggage. When it’s a wedding it’s even more critical that all your belongings arrive with you.

One unhappy newly wed vented their displeasure (via REDDIT) with their flight service when their luggage didn’t make it to his destination wedding.

Old world grandeur with 5-star service

MPV_TreasuryHotel-3If you’re looking for a Brisbane venue simply oozing elegant style and sophistication then it’s hard to go past the Treasury Hotel. With its mix of an unbeatable location, spectacular architecture and niche function spaces this Brisbane icon is difficult to top.

The hotel’s exceptionally professional, friendly and dedicated function staff know how to deliver your perfect wedding day. Our friends at Masterpieces Photography + Video are one of their preferred suppliers and have shared some highlights from the latest showcase at this real treasure of Brisbane.

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend

xennox_wfml002-1You know we love fashion, champagne, and diamonds – I mean who doesn’t? So an invitation to the UNVEILED bridal showcase featuring the sublime designs of Vanessa Hoe from When Freddie Met Lilly in the opulent surrounds of Xennox Diamonds on the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane was an opportunity we simply couldn’t miss.

The event, feeling much more like an elegant party, was in full swing as we arrived, with the champagne and espresso martini cocktails flowing. Xennox has created a fabulous space to showcase their stunning bling and, like most of the ladies there, I simply couldn’t resist the temptation to try on a little (OK, $34,000 worth), of it – in my a case a modern cut Pink Argyle diamond ring! Sadly sanity prevailed and it had to go back into the display cabinet … this time.

xennox_wfml009-8With the fashion show a highlight of the night, it was Karl Schwantes himself who launched the show with a rousing introduction before highlights from Vanessa’s most recent collections, together with some teasers from her new range, made their way around the runway. The showstopping start, featuring jewellery against the backdrop of stylish black bodysuits was followed by a selection of stunning wedding and formal gowns, as well as some of the elements from the new two-piece range that can be mixed and matched to create the look you want.

Xennox will be hosting these events at intervals throughout the year so if you get the opportunity you should get along.

Casino Royale

treasuryshowcase001-1There are few buildings in Brisbane as majestic as the Treasury Casino and Hotel and even fewer that have faithfully retained the colonial elegance and grace of the long bygone Edwardian era. Fortunately, for wedding couples seeking something a little more unique for their nuptial celebrations, the former Queensland Treasury buildings have lost none of their charm and sophistication and are the perfect place to host a spectacular formal wedding for parties of just about any size. With a location right in the heart of the CBD, close to the river and providing a stunning backdrop for photos the Treasury really is the perfect choice for city weddings. The range of beautiful, high-ceiling rooms replete with history are adaptable to host functions in a number of ways, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff along a true 5-star feel means this venue should be high on your list to check out.
Our friends at Masterpieces Photography + Video were invited along to the recent wedding showcase at the hotel and captured the stunning setups created by the events team as well as the awe-inspiring courtyard atrium which would be perfect to host a large cocktail wedding.

WFML Glamorous Collection Launch

When Freddie met lilly Collection Launch

Hollywood-style glamour came to Brisbane last night with the glitzy launch of the When Freddie met Lilly Indianna Collection in the Valley. The night was filled with stunning gowns and equally gorgeous people, many wearing When Freddie met Lilly creations.

A full-on red carpet experience greeted the attendees with paparazzi snaps (by Masterpieces Photography + Video) on the stylish media wall (by Watermelon and Soda Design) outside Mirra Private Dining and Events. Attendees could get a wonderful dose of the ultra-hip vintage vibe at the Gathering Events caravan just outside the front door. Inside live music was being played by Savvy, while canapés and drinks were being served at a number of locations around this most flexible of venues, whilst fashion films projected in the courtyard, and guests could have the evening’s fun remembered at one of the two photo booths.

The standing room only parade commenced with a relaxed introduction by the beautiful and ever-so-accomplished Giaan Rooney, setting the scene for an evening of exquisite and sexy gowns.

As the lights came up the runway show was a veritable feast of sexiness with divine lace, luscious fabrics, sparkling embellishments along with lingering glimpses of décolletage, deep splits and low backs, all complemented by the spectacular headpieces from The Little Pack of Five. The luxurious green backdrop of the catwalk was highlighted by sparkling lights and lusciously draped with fresh native foliage by Kate Dawes Flower Design. The guys weren’t forgotten with suits, accessorized with bowties, and in a variety of seasonal colours. As always the flower girls managed to steal the show in the cuteness of frills, feathers and flower crowns.

Designer Vanessa Hoe should be justifiably proud of this collection, elements of which featured strongly last year in New York and at Sydney Bridal Fashion Week earlier this year. The When Freddie Met Lilly brand is an absolute powerhouse that continues to go from strength to strength and with standing room only this year, it’s exciting to think what next year’s collection launch might bring.

Tuscan twilight a little closer to home

This coming Sunday, 22nd May, The Bride’s Market will be hosting the next of their highly popular Twilight Market events at their Tuscan inspired courtyard in Douglas Street, Milton.
Offering a significantly different experience to the everyday, run-of the-mill indoor bridal expos, this event, held primarily outdoors under the stars, has a true European marketplace feel, with a selection of gourmet food vans sharing the space with a range of high-quality wedding vendors.
The unique space encourages great creativity from the attending suppliers, with plenty of fairy lights and decorative styling on shows dusk falls.

Ideal Bridal Experience

With it’s central Brisbane location at City Hall, close to some exceptional bridal shopping opportunities and great eateries around Queen Street, the Ideal Bride expo could be the perfect place to get your besties together for some serious planning.

City Hall certainly is a spectacular venue, with it’s cavernous circular chamber lending elegance and old world sophistication to any event. The Ideal Bride team are always welcoming and have invested in state of the art technology to assist your planning, starting with tablet driven registration forms and scannable tickets to enable you to register interest with exhibitors.

There were a wide range of suppliers to choose from, and a real mix of styles, from shabby chic to elegant modern.

Our main interest, of course, was the fashion parade, which kicked off very promptly and presented by the personable Courtney Thorpe, 2014 Miss World Australia. The show featured two of Brisbane’s well known wedding gown designers, Elizabeth de Varga and Jordana Regan, who have featured at MBFF in the past, as well as a several other labels, including JK Couture Designs, Hills in Hollywood and A Formal Affair, in front of a full audience.

The boys livened things up for the crowd with a little bit of personality showing though, but the most applause was reserved for the young children in flower-girl and page-boy outfits.

Industrial Inspiration at the Wedding Arcade

So what’s with the weather Brisbane? With Autumn throwing some unexpected weather events into the mix, we finally got the chance to attend The Wedding Arcade’s latest event. Held in the industrial setting of the old Peters Ice Cream factory in the heart of eclectic West End. This was the hottest ticket for brides-to-be this weekend, offering in depth planning advice and workshops as well as the opportunity to meet some of Brisbane’s best vendors. The old factory certainly made for a unique backdrop for the event, which was transformed with stylish settings from several event planners and some clever stalls from the suppliers.

When Freddie Met Lilly hosted a session on bridal fashions, with several models looking stunning in the gowns and suits. The grooms weren’t neglected either, with a Grooms Room close to the display of wedding transport that was offering a chill-out zone for the guys with a whiskey bar and comfy sofas if the boys needed a break.

Another innovation was the chefs table, which offered patrons a chance to enjoy a range of delectable dishes from a range of catering suppliers. Food trucks are becoming increasingly popular at Weddings and they were well represented too with a range a unique vehicles offering a selection of cuisine options.

The event was certainly popular, and although the weather didn’t play ball all the time this was a very different type of expo that allowed brides and grooms to dig a little deeper into the planning process and have time to talk to the vendors they wanted without the usual push and shove of some of the larger expos.
