It’s not just cricket

QC Club Bridal_015A unique, sumptuous location and a smattering of glamorous gowns – it’s just not cricket.

The QC Club, high in the stands of iconic Gabba cricket ground held a stylish bridal showcase on the first Thursday in September. A new venue for me (particularly as I’m neither a cricket nor AFL fan), this is so much more than just your average sports club. A grand foyer, tastefully decorated with historic sports memorabilia leads through to elegant function rooms that overlook the hallowed turf. One room was laid out for a medium-sized reception and looked spacious and very smart, with attention to detail evident on every example table. The bridal table with the dramatic backdrop of the grandstands and field looked particularly good with a rather stylish tablecloth providing a focus point in the room.

A second, larger room was set up for a showcase of vendors and suppliers. Organised by the team that brought us the amazing MBFF in the previous week, this was a refreshing change from the usual bridal open day, with a very limited range of hand-picked vendors avoiding the normal hard sell of many of these events. This relaxed atmosphere allowed us to appreciate the exceptional service provided by the venue, with the attentive staff offering a range of tasty morsels and drinks.

The main event of the evening was a fashion parade featuring a selection of designers who had headlined fashion week. It was fabulous to be able to see these gowns close up again and chat to the creators one to one. Many of the brides-to-be were taking the opportunity to talk with the designers and it was fascinating to hear the stories behind the collections and understand more of each designer’s inspiration.

The QC Club certainly shone on the night and should be high on the list for consideration if you are looking for a quality central Brisbane location. Whilst a ceremony out on the field may not appeal to all, if your better half is into his (or her), cricket or AFL it could be a way to get them interested in the planning in a big way.

Thanks to the staff at the QC Club for hosting us so graciously and to Lindsay Bennett and his team for creating another wonderful designer parade.
